HENNGE K.K. (headquarters: Shibuya, Tokyo, Representative Director, Chief Executive Officer: Kazuhiro Ogura, “HENNGE”) is pleased to announce that the adoption of "HENNGE Secure Download," a de-PPAP (*1) solution for secure file transmission via e-mail, has exceeded 350,000 user companies (*2) approximately two years after its introduction. Furthermore, the number of e-mails with attachments sent by HENNGE One users using PPAP has decreased by approximately 40% over the past two years, indicating a growing trend among domestic companies to abandon PPAP practices.

■ About Surpassing 350,000 User Companies
PPAP, widely adopted in Japan as a method of sending password-protected ZIP files via e-mail with the password sent separately, has faced increasing scrutiny in recent years due to concerns about its security and convenience. In response, many companies have been transitioning to alternative methods, commonly called "de-PPAP."

In October 2021, HENNGE introduced the de-PPAP solution, "HENNGE Secure Download," as a feature of its cloud security service, "HENNGE One." The solution has been widely adopted by listed companies, various industries, and local governments due to its simple operation and high security. By January 2023, the number of user companies had surpassed 200,000 (*3). The announcement reveals that within approximately two years of its launch, HENNGE Secure Download is now being utilized by over 350,000 user companies.

■ Corporate Transition Away from PPAP
To assess the shift away from PPAP among user companies, HENNGE conducted a survey comparing the methods of sending e-mails with file attachments by HENNGE One users shortly after the introduction of HENNGE Secure Download in October 2021 and two years later in October 2023 (*4). The results indicate a reduction of approximately 40% in the number of e-mails sent per week via PPAP over the two years (from 3.21 million to 1.96 million).

In addition, HENNGE also counted the means of sending e-mails with attachments sent by HENNGE One users on a weekly basis. As a result, the number of e-mails sent by HENNGE Secure Download during the week of October 1 to 7, 2023, reached 2.01 million, surpassing the number of e-mails sent by PPAP (1.96 million) for the first time during the same period. (*5).

These findings highlight the increasing momentum among Japanese companies to balance the safety and convenience of file transmission, leading to a significant shift towards alternative methods like "HENNGE Secure Download."

HENNGE remains committed to promoting secure file transfers through the continued provision of "HENNGE Secure Download" and "HENNGE One," contributing to enhancing both convenience and security for businesses.

■ About HENNGE Secure Download
HENNGE Secure Download was released as a de-PPAP feature of HENNGE One, a cloud security service by HENNGE, in October 2021. By simply sending the file as an attachment to the email like usual, the attached file will automatically be uploaded to cloud storage. The recipient will then receive the content of the email, along with a PDF containing the URL to download the attachment file. Once the recipient requests authentication of their email address, an authentication code will be sent separately through another channel. Since the download URL is issued to each recipient, only the recipient can authenticate and download the file. In addition, in case an incorrect file is attached by mistake, the URL can be disabled even after transmission.
