The Law of 100: Consistency is the Key to Success

Our blog posts number had reached to 100

At the end of 2021, the number of our blog posts reached 100. It took 2 years for us to reach 100. We are still finding out the way to be more consistent in our posting process but it has already become a lot more systematic than before. Plus, great thanks to the visitors who visited our blog site, our visitor number is now more than doubled in comparison to last year.

In modern marketing, content marketing is one of the important factors to increase inbound inquiries. Another way is to put more investment in listing advertisements. If we can set good keywords to acquire inquiries, listing advertisements is really good because it can reach out to many people who have interest in those keywords. However, if the target is a niche where less people search related keywords on the internet, listing advertisements will not work well. I think this is one of the reasons why content marketing became popular among start-ups who targeted niche markets in the beginning. If the keyword is niche, there is less competition to be shown in search engine results. This means a company simply needs to create contents to show on the search result rather than spending money for listing advertisements.

The law of 100

This law is not that popular but there are people saying about “the law of 100” when people would like to accomplish something consistently. The meaning is really simple. If a person would like to try something, the person should try 100 times to see how it will be. I believe there is no important meaning in 100. I guess many people have experienced and agree that if a person does something 100 times, the person will know whether it is effective or not. Also, if a person can continue for 100 times, it is more likely that the person can also continue next 100 times and be consistent.

For blog posts, many say the blog site needs to have around 70-80 posts to see the boost in the traffic views. Therefore, for us, setting 100 posts to our blog site was a good milestone. In fact, our blog traffic view grew faster after we reached 90 posts.

Another reason why I believe the law of 100 is effective is that when I first came to Taiwan to expand our business, I set a goal to visit 100 companies. I didn’t know about this law of 100 at the time but I thought I would need to visit 100 companies to understand the business culture in Taiwan. In fact, I could visit 100 companies in the first year and I could learn a lot about the difference in the solution adoption process and the decision making process.

Can be used for measurement of passion

In both personal life and working life, there should be many things that we want to do and be better at. Maybe that can be learning another language. Maybe that can be improving sales numbers at work. Maybe that can be just losing some weight for a healthier life. I think the amount of passion can be measured by how many times it can be continued. If a person can continue to do the routine for 100 times, I think we can say the person is passionate enough on that matter. However, even if a person says they are passionate about doing something, if the person only continues the routine for only a few times, it is difficult to say the person is passionate to do it.

The key to success in consistency is often said that the routine should be able to continue without too much effort. In order to lose some weight, if a person sets a routine to run 20km everyday, it would be difficult to continue unless the person is an athlete. Instead, if the person sets a routine to walk 30 mins everyday, we can imagine it is easier to continue. Of course, the amount of weight to be lost would be less in walking 30 mins compared to running 20 km. However, I think the law of 100 is more focused on seeing the result after doing something for 100 times rather than reaching a certain outcome goal. For this example, after 100 times, the person can see how much weight the person could lose and the person can evaluate the difficulty of continuing. And, the person can adjust the content of the routine according to the result.

Today, there are many situations where we need to challenge something new which is difficult to predict the result. For those, I think just deciding to do something relevant and try to continue for 100 times is enough. After 100 times, we should have a good understanding on those matters and we will be able to set more effective goals.
